Ghasem Hosseini Salekdeh

Ghasem Hosseini Salekdeh is a Professor of Genetics and Systems Biology at the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII) and Royan Institute for Stem Cells Biology and Technology. He obtained his Ph.D. from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in 2002.  His research in plant field currently focuses on integrating physiological, molecular, and genetic engineering approaches coupled with omics technologies and systems biology for discovering genes and the regulatory mechanisms controlling root system architecture required for enhancing drought tolerance. At Royan Institute, he leads a proteomics lab with a specific focus on identification of membrane proteins and novel cell surface markers of progenitor stem cells for cell therapy applications. He is a council member of AOHUPO and vice-president of AOAPO. He is also PI of C-HPP and Chair of Human Y Chromosome Proteome Project. He is an Honorary Professor of Macquarie University, Australia, and member of the editorial board of international journals such as Proteomics and Journal of Proteome Research. Throughout his career, he has received several awards and honors including Best National Researcher (2016), Distinguished Scientist in Genetics (2017), and Best National Scientist in Biotechnology from the National Biotechnology Committee (2018).
